22.04.2021: "German Jewish Sacred Musical Intersections" Referent: Prof. Dr. Edwin Seroussi (HUJI, Israel), Leiter Jewish Music Research Centre Department of Musicology, he Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel
This project aims to locate, map, analyse, and make accessible to the public German-Jewish (Ashkenazic) liturgical music from the early 19th century to the Second World War, and to interpret it in its broad European cultural context. Synagogues are thereby considered not only as ritual spaces, but also as places of public representation of new, changing aesthetic ideals mediated by music and intercultural interfaces between Jews and the society in which they live. At the same time, regional differences and particularities of the community are outlined. Registration at: https://www.alicepinheirowalla.com/jewphil.html
